"Londonderry waits its turn, beats Windham"

Chris Duffy, October 26, 2024

Showing that patience can be a virtue in football, the Lancers prevailed, 21-6, on a night when their opponent rushed for all 16 offensive plays of the 12-minute first quarter.

“We were saying at halftime, “Get used to it, boys, because that’s what we’re going to see next week,’” said Londonderry coach Jimmy Lauzon, who made several defensive personnel adjustments in response to the Jaguar Shuffle. “Maybe, in some ways, it’s preparation for us. It is hard to simulate. Not that they’re running what Exeter is running, necessarily, but it is tight, foot to foot, three yards and cloud of dust. That’s the style of football. Rough, tough football."

Jersey Decorating

Senior parents got together to decorate the wooden jerseys for their son's on Senior Night. Thank you to Jason Buttle for preparing the wooden jerseys, to Sara Ogden for Cricut'ing the names and numbers, and the whole Buttle family for allowing this rowdy group to take over your barn for the afternoon!

If there were an award for the most dedicated parent for the event it might go to Rebecca Petkus - travelling in style on a scooter wearing Paul's hemet! 😃

Locker Decorating

Senior parents spent Thursday night after practice decorating their son's lockers for the final home game of the regular season - Senior Night!  Luckily the smell does not come through with these photos! 😅

Coach's Summary

As it always is when we play Windham, Friday’s game was a challenging and unique match up. We never know what to expect and we always get the best effort of the Jaguars. Regardless of the difficulty at times or lack of ball control we may have had, it was a win on senior night, a conference win, and a victory versus a tough opponent. They have a good defense and given the amount of possessions we had, I felt we moved the ball pretty well. Our defense settled in after a tough first quarter and they created some much needed takeaways! Our special teams’ units continue to improve, our kickoff coverage was almost perfect, except for a couple missed tackles which allowed Windham good field position. We blocked our fourth punt in a row and an extra point which is great to see! We appreciate the commitment to the special teams’ practice our kids are putting forth each week and their hard work is paying off.

We made many mistakes which had become somewhat limited over the last 2-3 games leading up to Windham, so I was surprised with how many self-inflicted mistakes we made forcing us into difficult situations throughout the game, but fortunately we made it out of several of them. We need to prepare better and make less mistakes going forward, which starts with me and the planning of preparation leading up to the game. I can do a better job preparing the boys going forward! We have a tough opponent this week as we take on an undefeated Exeter team. We are looking forward to the challenge with playoff implications on the line, it’s a great position to be in at this point in the year!

Coach's Summary

The JV game on Saturday was a tough one. I felt the effort and physicality of the team was excellent! We were the more physical team, and we did a nice job defending their triple option offense which is not easy to do with as little practice time the JV has as a group together throughout the week. However, there were a lot of missed assignments and we struggled to consistently execute. It felt as if we were taking turns missing an assignment, for example 9-10 guys on each play would do it right, but 1-2 would not, and in some games we’re able to overcome those mistakes, but in some games we are not, which is how the sport of football goes. I do feel many of the sophomores and juniors are developing at a proper pace and starting to understand their positions more and more, although they were not all able to be in the game on Saturday, we see it in practice and we’re seeing the progress they’re making.

Coach's Summary

The Londonderry Lancer freshman football team defeated Windham 46-27 to continue the winning streak.  The game was close through the first three quarters as Windham struck first on the first play from the line of scrimmage making it 7-0.  The Lancers responded making it 8-7 but Windham quickly scored.  The game was close in the third quarter as Windham was driving but fumbled the ball.  The Lancers recovered and never looked back.  They capitalized on the momentum and sealed the victory.  The Lancers look to take on Exeter at home to end the regular season.
