Coach's Note

I’d like to take this time to let all the parents know that the staff is working hard to find opportunities for all 98 kids to play a role on the field in one way or another. It’s a difficult balance every week to find ways to prepare the varsity team for their game, while we also try to continue to develop the younger players and find ways to work extra with the players that have fallen behind. While we try to figure out ways to develop them as players, we also want to get to know them as people. We try to recognize how each of them reacts to certain coaching styles and their motivation level. We realize some of them learn in different ways and at a different pace, we are always evaluating and trying to create a connection with them.

I try not to lose sight of the big picture, but the scheme of the game, the preparation for the opponent, and the logistics of the program are all very time consuming and can certainly take my focus away at times, and I apologize for that. We are striving to give every kid the full high school football experience and we always look for ways for each player to enjoy this sport and being a part of the program. Thank you all for the support.

Coach's Summary

The coaches are very proud of the fight and effort the players put forth vs St. John’s Prep on Friday. Of course, we wish we could have several plays back that could have changed the outcome of the game but learning from those plays is what matters most at this point in the season. We felt the team showed no fear and battled all game long with one of the best teams in the region.

Defensively we have to work on getting off the field on 3rd & 4th downs and preventing big plays on those downs. We won the early downs, but their offense was able to execute in long situations on the late downs which led to scoring drives and big plays.

Offensively we were challenged by their defensive line, and it made it difficult to get a steady run game going but our pass game was efficient and were able to move the chains through the air, we were just not consistent enough with it throughout the game. The offensive line pass protected well, and several players had big catches.

Hopefully, we learn a lot from this game, and it helps us realize some of the things we need to work on. Oftentimes, you learn more from a loss than a win, and we hope that’s the case this week.

Coach's Summary

Saturday’s game was fun to be a part of, it was a great battle and both teams left everything they had on the field. Similar to the varsity team, we struggled to get off the field on late downs and we didn’t defend their pass exceptionally well, but there were a lot of positives on defense. We played physical, executed several blitzes, and defended the run game well. Offensively we were also able to move the ball in the air and had several nice runs and big plays. The boys should be very proud of their efforts on Saturday and how well they played.
